data socket and tcpip

Data socket are devlishly simple to use in LBV. However, I wonder which
kind of format they use as compared to a flattened byte stream issued by
a TCPIP server. I guess there is some overhead with data sockets so
that these may not be advisable for large amounts of data to be
transmitted.
Could some one refer me to an URL or simply explain to me what the
difference is.
I also know of quite a few people who ignores dstp and yet master http
ftp and the like. Funny if these are in hte T&M business over internet.

Actualy there is also UDP and VI server to consider as a transfer method...

I'm attaching a presentation given by NI. It focuses on transfer of data from LV-RT but the principles apply the same to LV6i. Start reading at PAGE 18 since that is where it talks about transfering data over Ethernet.

As you will see, the RAW tcpip functions in LV are the fastest however with smaller data packet sizes.
