can PV value in PID controller be a string?

Hi All,

 

I am trying to generate a humidity controller using mass flow controller. I have a USB humidity sensor. The reading from the sensor are outputted into a  worksheet and the converted to string. The value ( a string) serves as an input into the pv value of the PID? Is this implementable?

You just have to use one of the string to numeric functions.
