Which NI software/modules do I need for a cRIO (FPGA) turboprop test bench (acquisition + control)?

Hello everyone,

I’m working on a turboprop turbine test bench and I’d like advice on the NI software/licenses we should purchase.

Project overview:

  • Measure multiple signals: temperature, pressure, flow, etc.

  • Use these measurements to implement a control law to command two actuators (two pumps)

  • The system may evolve (more sensors/I/O, added control/monitoring features)

  • Hardware choice: CompactRIO (cRIO) with FPGA

Questions:

  1. For this kind of test bench, is LabVIEW alone enough, or is it better to get a suite like NI Embedded Control and Monitoring Software Suite?

  2. Since we are using cRIO + FPGA, do we definitely need the LabVIEW FPGA Module?

  3. Do we also need the LabVIEW Real-Time Module (typical cRIO architecture), or can everything run from a Windows PC ?

  4. Any recommended NI approach/tools for data logging + monitoring + deployment for an industrial test bench?

Thanks in advance!

  1. When you can order the ECM Suite then you should go with it. (It includes the RT and FPGA module.)
  2. Yes.
  3. For the cRIO you need the RT module.
  4. Depends on your requirements, but I could log/monitor data without any other additional modules/toolkits.
Best regards,
