That should work, what do you mean by "strange data"?

I am collecting data from the serial port and before I even turn the meter on the Labview graph is showing data. I did not have this problem with Labview 5.1.1

Hmmm... never had this problem. You may want to try flushing the buffer at the beginning of your program. Thats really all I can think of.

All I have done is try and build an application from 5.1.1 to 6.0.2 I have not modified anything in the program yet. What gives?

Chris,

NI-VISA 2.5 works in LabVIEW 6i, as far as my understanding it is actually shipped with LabVIEW 6i, however I'm using right now 2.6 with my LabVIEW 6i and it doesn't has any compatibility issues.

I suggest that you request support from NI in order to troubleshoot the wrong data that you are getting. There are 3 ways you can reach our support, one is by using this Developer Exchange Forum, there is a category specially for VISA. Other sources are email directly to support or phone call, all the contact information for this manners is available at www.ni.com/ask please point your browser to that address and set up a request for support.

Good luck!
