I have several LabVIEW based test stations at vendor sites which generates database data. The database presently resides on a secure Mangomind internet drive and is accessable at the assembly plant. This has worked for years, but is there a more standard way to configure the data collection?
Thanks

vclark,
you might need to provide some more information for people to be able to provide valuable feedback. Esp: why do you want to change your working system? Is it not secure enough? Is it unstable? What are your problems with firewalls?
what you describe seems perfectly acceptable to me, if i understood correctly. Various locations log data to one online database, which can then be accessed/viewed from another location. An online database that is doing it's own backup and security actually seems like a good way to go.

Michael,
My company outsourced our IT to the same company that offers Mangomind internet drives. IT suggested its Mangomind as a solution years ago, but then recently suggested we look for an alternative after contract negotiations. They thought a better solution might be possible nowadays, and there might be have been a possible conflict of interest for the original recommendation. This sounds like a problem other test stations developers might have solved so I posted the question in the forum. I was interested in hearing other people's solutions, but have seen one to date.
I will continue to use Mangomind.

What you are doing is pretty typical in my experience. A couple of jobs ago, we also wanted the raw data stored at our location as well so IT wrote a service for me using SSL. The service ran on a server that was connected to the internet and I was able to log to both the contract manufacturer's and my database at the same time. Very useful having the complete test records ourselves.
And in case you ask, no I don't have a copy of the code. All I can say about it is that I formatted the test results as an xml file and it was this file that was sent.
