Watermarks have started to appear

Solved!
Go to solution

In 2015 I purchased a LabVIEW 2014 SP1 permanent license for $50.  I forget the terms of the purchase but it allowed me to develop and build without watermarks.  This worked for many years.

Recently, I started LabVIEW 2014 SP1 and the watermarks returned.  NI License Manager shows I am Licensed for 2014 with Development System and Application Builder green.  Home Edition is also green.

What accounted for this change and how do I get back to no watermarks?

A purchase for $50 suggests you purchased the Home Edition. Back then it did have watermarks. (Look carefully, the watermark probably says "Home Edition!")

Everything that you've said so far is consistent with having watermarks.

Could you give us more information?

Hi

I also strangely remembered that the Home version did not show Watermarks ..

So I checked an actual installation, and the Home version does show Watermarks both on the Front Panel and in the Block Diagrams !

Google'ing the subject a little found this Discussion, stating that Watermarks was also shown in 2016 :

How one's memory fades ..

Thank you both for responding.  Here is what I recall.

Around 2015, NI offered a permanent license to LabVIEW 2014 SP1 Professional.  It was not-for-profit use only.  No watermarks.  Limited to 3 computers.  $50.

I used the license successfully for at least 7 years.

The last build I did with no watermarks was in March 2022.  Somebody changed my license since then as watermarks are now everywhere when I edit and build.

Someone at NI must remember the 2014 offer.  I would not have taken the offer with watermarks.  I do have .LIC files from that time.

Correction:  The offer was not Professional.  It was Full Development System and Application Builder.  No watermarks.  Also, the $50 was paid to Digilent.

I got the home bundle from Digilent for $49, it sounds like that's what you have as well. I do recall always seeing a watermark, but can't say for certain. Someone posted in 2019 mentioning the watermark here: National Instruments LabView Home Bundle - Page 1

By the way, you can use the Community Edition now for free, which I don't believe shows a watermark.

You are exactly describing LabVIEW Home Edition without actually saying it, except for the watermarks. I think you are misremembering.

So you never replied to me about what the watermark actually says.

Attached is an executable built on my PC in 2022.  This after 7 years of no watermarks.

Attached is the same VI loaded today showing the watermarks.  What changed?

It says "Home and Student Edition" which is entirely appropriate, given the information you've given. However, I can see your pictures. My best guess is you were unknowingly using a different license when you built the application.

But as others have said, maybe the fix is to download the Community Edition, which is LabVIEW Pro for non-commercial use. For free. That will get rid of the watermark and give you access to LabVIEW's latest version.

Unless, of course, you are wed to that particular version. 😉
