Using Serial Port to send mouse actions to remote computers mouse port

I have a video text overlay device that using a mouse connected to it to control screen icons. The only way to turn off the screen icons is by the mouse. Is it possible to send data from my serial port to the mouse port to send horizontal, vertical and mouse click information? If so how?

Terry,

This is a tough one. Even if you did write the logic to perform this, you have to know the mouse position in order to send the moves.

I would offer an alternative suggestion: Contact the manufacturer of this device, and ask them for information on how you can send the commands.

However; if you do need to write the program, you have to know the commands for vertical, horizontal, and clicks. These may be available from the driver software, but I suspect you will need an eavesdropping program. There are many out there, or you can make one yourself. I would suggest that you wite a simple LabVIEW routine that reads the mouse serial data one bit at a time, and routes the information back out to the device, also one bit at a time. Meanwhile, display
this information. You can easily log which action is which, especially if you take the mouse apart and scroll the horizontal and vertical directly and independently.

Good luck. I'm sure we are all interested in how this turns out, so please let us know
