Temp license when not on the web

Hi
I have
LabVIEW version 8.0
windows XP sp2

I am required (when doing certain tests) to disconnect my machine from the WEB

when I do and then bring up LabVIEW I get the following

Backup License
7 days remaining .......

What happens after 7 days
why must I be on the WEB to use my purchased and licensed copy of LabVIEW?

Is there something else that I have to purchase?

Please let me know because this is going to become a real problem quickly

HI James,

I think you use a License server. So every seven   days you have to check in.
After seven days it will turn into an evaluation edition.

   Hi

No my license is to my machine

I use LabVIEW every day and I have since it came out

I only ger the Backup License notice when I must disconnect from the web.

Procedure when running a test

If LabVIEW is running shut it down

Stop all web based programs

disconnect from the web (pull the plug)

restart LabVIEW

this is when I get the Backup License notice ( the # of days has been counting down to zero)

IF I keep LabVIEW running no problems, But that is not always possible.

jamesz,

2 things:

First, are you removing your network card (is this a laptop?) when you "unplug"? If so, that's the cause of the problem. The network card must stay installed on the PC in order for you not to get this message. Also do you see your computer ID change when you "unplug"? You can find your computer id by going to start>>Program Files>>National Instruments>>NI License Manager>>Display computer information.

If you're not removing your network card and your computer id is changing, go ahead and contact ni from http://www.ni.com/support/ and select the email option.

  Hi
No my machine is a desk top and all I do is remove the  cat 5 cable from the ethernet card
on the back of the machine

My computer ID is the same as when I licensed version 8 it has not changed
( just checked it against the e-maid I got when I licened V8.)

Hey Jamesz,
Go to Start>>Programs>>National Instruments>>NI License manager, then go to Options>>Preferences. What do you have under "Use Network License Servers"?

The "Use Network License Servers" box is NOT checked
the box below is grayed out

The "Show Web Help" is checked

The "Start Local License Server os System Start" is not checked

On the left hand side the LabVIEW 8.0 Development system is "Green"
under that the Full Development System with MathScrip is "green"

jamesz,
I should have read your previous post more carefully before replying last time. You said that your computer ID is the same since the day you first got LabVIEW. I assume this means that it DOES NOT change when you unplug your cat 5 cable. Is this correct? Also, do you have other versions of LabVIEW or other NI software on your computer that require a license?

If everything seems to be working correctly, please contact NI support at the email address I mentioned above.
