Serial port programming question----no "COM1" selection in the "VISA resource name" of "VISA Configure Serial Port "

Hi , i am new to progrom with LabVIEW. Here is some question of serial port control.

The document of "Serial Quick Reference Guide", there is a simple example of controlling of serial port, but ,in my LabVIEW, there is some different . LabVIEW can not

find the COM1 ,so I can not select it.

Why ? and how to solve it?

thanks.

Your question has very little details.

Which version of LV are you using? Are you seeing a list of things you don't understand? Are you seeing an empty list?

If you are seeing a list of things like ASRL1::INSTR, those are the VISA names for the COM ports. You can go into MAX to configure the aliases so that they will be called COM1, COM2 and so on. You can also simply select ASRL1::INSTR, which should be COM1. You can try searching for "VISA aliases" to learn more about this.

To learn more about LabVIEW, I suggest you try searching this site and google for LabVIEW tutorials. Here and here are a couple you can start with. You can also contact your local NI office and join one of their courses.
In addition, I suggest you read the LabVIEW style guide and the LabVIEW user manual (Help>>Search the LabVIEW Bookshelf).

Can it find any COM or ASRL?  Mine comes in as ASRL4::INSTR, but LabVIEW calls to COM4 also work.
