Remote debugging active but no access to block diagram

Solved!
Go to solution

I have an executable running on a target which I want to debug. I have enabled debugging in the build properties, I have enabled debugging in the vi properties. I can connect from development machine to the exe.

But the option to switch to the block diagram simply is not there (see pic). I know I am not first one who has this problem but I could not find an answer.

Without having the possibility to see the block diagram a "debug function" is completely useless!!!

If anyone has an idea it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi peter,

Hi Peter,

while the online documentation of the RemoteDebugging feature always mentions that "show block diagram" switch it has been a (documented, but still annoying) bug since LV8.5 (?) that this switch isn't available...

Options:

- In your picture you show the menu of the VI. You should be able to show the block diagram by Window -> Show block diagram...

- When you create an EXE with RemoteDebugging enabled you should show that menu line to allow switching to block diagram in all critical places.

- You have bad luck when you are forced to create your own menu for the VI...

Best regards,
GerdW

Hi peter,

This is a known issue and a Corrective Action Request (CAR 130070) has been created and reported to the R&D department. Looking through the notes in the CAR, this should be fixed in LabVIEW 2012.

Workaround:

Debug applications with the menu bar turned on

Wow,

that would be a really good reason to upgrade to LV2012!

<angry> A bug fixed after ~5 version steps of LabVIEW... </angry>
