If i upgrade to Labview 8.6.1 on desktop computer, and create real-time VIs/EXEs, can they run on Fieldpoints with Labview 8.6 software on board?

You VIs WILL run.

It is like this...

VIs developed in LV X.Y will run in LV X.Y.z and also vice-versa.

Also like this...

VIs developed in LV X.A will run in X.B (where A<B), but NOT vice-versa.

But your EXE will not run, unless you have got the compatible version (same as the LV dev version) of the LV run-time engine installed in the target machine.
