Suddenly after reopening of the project, many of the files in the project have disappeared. The files are still on the disk. Some files were in project virtual folders and some in auto populated folders. All the auto populated are turned to virtual folders and are empty, but retained the name they had. There are no error messages when loading the project. It has happened a couple of times now and is pretty annoying. Seen this before? I have compared the broken project file with a previous working version, and there are huge differences. It has lost about 30k out of 113k.

Hi Heel, I realise that this is not the functionality you wish, it is a good idea that this should repoll folders which were previously auto-populating. However since they become virtual folders, they do not know to re-poll the file contents as is done with auto-populating files. The issue is that if LabVIEW cannot access the auto-populating folder then it assigns it as a virtual folder, this is expected behaviour, however LabVIEW does not poll virtual folders for details. This is why LabVIEW does not re-detect the auto-populating folder until being re-opened when it re-assigns the folder to auto-populating. Hence I do not believe I can submit this as a CAR report as LabVIEW is behaving as is expected, it is that there is a functionality you expect/want that is not already existing. Best regards, Ed

Thanks for the explanation. I mark this issue as resolved although I disagree that this behavior is expected and thus not resolved if you ask me. Let me argue once more:

The project file (.lvproj) clearly holds and maintains information that a particular folder, which used to be an auto-populating folder but which LV converts to virtual (and empty) . And the only reason for this behaviour is that a non existing folder cannot be an auto-populating folder - this makes sense.

But if the folder is recreated LV should switch back to its original state of an auto-populating folder - all the necessary information to do this is in the lvproj file. Information which the user put in there.

I don't see any reason why LV should not behave the same way both when reopening the project - re- populate whatever was in the folder and switch to auto given the occasion of a re-appearing folder.

Basically LV takes a decision to change the project folder structure without asking the user.

It is this asymmetry of functionality - sometimes it repopulates some times not - which is inconsistent and which probably is the cause of the quirk that the project looses files now and then. Although this last bit and my original concern, remains not clarified 100%
