Ni Package Manager won't allow older versions

Solved!
Go to solution

Hello

Whenever i try to install anything from version 2018 or earlier, i have to download it manually from the website, because NI Package Manager doesn't show me an option to download anything other than 2019 and 2020 versions.

I am logged in and have professional license and can download older versions online, but NIPM won't show em.

Am i doing something wrong or is this just the way it is?

Example with database connectivity toolkit:

Hi Soul,

answer: NIPM was started with LV2018 - it simply doesn't know anything before that!

You need to download the installation packages from NI's website for older LabVIEW versions…

GerdW

This is somewhat unrelated to original topic, but the reason why i wanted older Labview version was to build an app in it.

Tried to build an app, but it said there are no DAQmx drivers for that version, so i tried installing version 18.6 of DAQmx drivers.

Installation was aborted because i already had newer version of drivers and old could not be installed.

So i went into 2019 version in which i already had the app built and tried making an installer... but the drivers, despite showing up on the list and being selected

are apparently unavailable

DAQmxTest is an app i built in version 18 on another computer, but doesn't actually contain an installer for DAQmx.

What am i doing wrong here?

Hi Soul,

general rules:

  • first you need to install LabVIEW, after that you can install drivers (like DAQmx)
  • you can only install one version of a driver (like DAQmx)
  • the driver version needs to fit to the installed LabVIEW versions, as only the current and the last 3 versions are supported by a driver (Example: DAQmx coming with LV2020 will support LV2017-LV2020.)

Problem is not installation, the drivers work on this computer on which i'm working.

What i'm having difficulty with is creating an installer, which has included DAQmx drivers with it as it supposedly can't be located.

Hi Soul,

when I install LabVIEW then I copy the content of the USB installation media onto the harddrive of the computer -  and leave that on the computer after installation.

This way the AppBuilder always has access to all needed setup packages…

Best regards,
GerdW

So you suggest i re-download all installations and save them somewhere?

I usually delete them to save space, was not aware they are needed for installer or other things.

EDIT: I installed Labview 2019 with NIPM, where is this installer saved? It's not in National Instruments Downloads folder.

Until now I only use upto LV2017 in production systems, there is no NIPM hassle! 😄

And LV2020 is only used on my private computer, without the need for hardware drivers. And on my private computer I don't need any installation packages, so my experience with NIPM is rather limited…

(But even then I always request the USB installation media and copy their content on the harddrive.)

What does it say about NIPM, when even the pros refuse to use it unless forced to 😅
