Newbie: Where do I start?

Hi,

I'm trying to control a peristaltic pump with Labview (via RS232 or other
means). Can anyone point me to the right direction on resources (books,
etc) to get my feet wet?

TO,

First, go to the examples, under Communication, and look for the serial examples. You want something like LabVIEW>>Serial example for this. Then, go to the manual for the pump to get the commands. Now, just start typing away and see what happens. Then, you can customize the example to create your own. You are highly encouraged to use and abuse the LabVIEW examples to create your own functions. That's how many people learn LabVIEW.

I also recommend the following books: LabVIEW for everyone, and Power Programming 3e by Gary Johnson. Both books have examples that would be helpful.
