NI488.2 V2.2( released in 2003) still compatible with NI-VISA v5.3 ( in 2013)?

Hi all, 

I note that we need to consider compatibility between GPIB hardware type and NI488.2 versions,

e.g., for GPIB-USB-A we have to use versions no more than 2.2 for NI488.2 .

Now I wander if there is also compatibility betwee NI488.2 and NI-VISA?

There are so many versions for VISA!

Are they all suitable for any versions of NI488.2 ?

I want to use NI488.2 version 2.2, can I use the latest NI-VISA 5.3 ?

I note that NI488.2 v2.2 is released in 2003, while NI-VISA 5.3 released in 2013,

ten years between !

Are they still compatible with each other?
