NI USB 6501 counter

Hello,

I am using LabView v8.6. I have a NI USB 6501 device. In my application i want to give a train of pulses as an input, count the number of pulse in up or down direction that will be selected by the user(on front panel) .And also i want to output that train of pulses on some other line. Since i am a new user i could count only in one direction and that too if i use the counter (p2.7). So can the counting be done in software by use of some logic?
