Hello,

Could you please provide little more information about your system, such as installed application development environment(ADE), which version of NI-488.2 you are trying to install and the hard disk location of it?

Hi

The version of NI-488.2 is the latest 2.8.1

I have got this brand new PC for doing automated tests in our LAB and as a first thing to do is installing NI-488.2. My GPIB interface is a USB-HS from National Instrument.

The computer is pretty much a clean computer, an HP EliteBook 8440p 64bit MB with 4 GB memory configured with an Intel Core I5 64bit M560 processor and a 160 GB SSD. Running Windows 7 64bit Enterprise

The following SW list is taken from [HKEY_LOCAL_MASHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENTVERSION\UNINSTALL]

which indicates the software which has been installed by an installer.

DisplayName="Windows Driver Package - Broadcom HIDClass (07/28/2009 6.2.0.9800)"

DisplayName="Windows Driver Package - Broadcom Bluetooth (07/30/2009 6.2.0.9405)"

DisplayName="Windows Driver Package - Broadcom Bluetooth (06/15/2009 6.2.0.9000)"

DisplayName="LSI HDA Modem"

DisplayName="Windows Password Reset Tool (RESET3)"

DisplayName="Intel PROSet Wireless"

DisplayName="Synaptics Pointing Device Driver"

DisplayName="HP Wireless Assistant"

DisplayName="Intel(R) Turbo Boost Technology Monitor"

DisplayName="Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - x64 9.0.30729.17"

DisplayName="Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - KB2467174 - x64 9.0.30729.5570"

DisplayName="Microsoft Office Office 64-bit Components 2007"

DisplayName="Microsoft Office Shared 64-bit MUI (English) 2007"

DisplayName="Microsoft Office Shared 64-bit Setup Metadata MUI (English) 2007"

DisplayName="HP Integrated Module with Bluetooth wireless technology"

DisplayName="64 Bit HP CIO Components Installer"

DisplayName="Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless WiFi Software"

DisplayName="Validity Fingerprint Driver" "DisplayName"="PGP Desktop"

DisplayName="Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 ATL Update kb973924 - x64 9.0.30729.4148"

The above list is what is installed on this "new" PC that I got. The first thing I would like to do with my new PC is to install NI-488.2 version 2.8.1 for 64 bit support and then the above ERROR poped up.

Is it possible to force an 32bit installation of the NI-488.2 instead?

Br,

Peter

Hi Peter,

When you received this error, did you choose to continue the installation or not? If you did choose to continue, can you verify that the driver is installed.

Also, do you have administrator privileges on the computer? What happens if you right click the installer and choose 'Run as administrator'?

Gosh..! Could it be that simple... It is working..

It seems that we have different user privileges on our new Computers because on the first of our PC's, I didn't have to run as administrator so that's why I got confused by the second PC which poped up with errors..

Thanks for your support.

Best Regards

Peter Sand

I am installing NI-488.2 Version 3.1.1 to my laptop computer of Windows 7 64 bits, and keep having error messages of the following.  My IT engineer told me that he worked with NI, and was told that this is a known issue that NI 488.2 can not work with Windows 7 64 bits computer.  Please confirm and suggest a solution.  Thanks.

Hi bobxu,

NI-488.2 is supported on both 32 and 64 bit Windows 7.

Usually when this error occurs and if retry does not work, it helps to reboot the computer and try installing again.

Otherwise see this KB.
