Lecroy Research Systems - what happened?

Is there a company out there that makes anything close to what LeCroy
Research Systems used to make? Anyone know of people who used design the
boards at LRS?

My company makes some VME and CAMAC modules that do some of the
high-speed timing stuff that LeCroy used to do. We don't do high
voltage or FastBus, though.

http://www.highlandtechnology.com/

Also check out Phillips Scientific, Jorger, and Jorway. See vita.org
if you're interested in VME.

What sort of stuff are you working on?

Also maybe KineticSys
tems (www.kscorp.com) Bi-Ra (www.bira.com),
BNC (www.berkeleynucleonics.com) and one of those EG&G
companies, I think it was Ortec.

Was kind of a bummer when LeCroy folded up their research instruments
division.

I was specifically interested in their fast programmable logic CAMAC
modules which employed Xilinx FPGAs. I am not tied to CAMAC however. If
there is a more modern off-the-shelf equivalent that would do as well.

I think this company is continuing some of the
old LeCroy products:

A good reference for particle physics instrumentation is the adverts in the
Cern Courier; look at their web site:

The LeCroy CAMAC module with the Xilinx had ECL I/O. If you don't need ECL,
there are a lot of PCI cards with various Xilinx parts on board.

Especially in nuclear and atomic physics CAMAC and NIM are still
widely used. I guess that the manufacturers of CAMAC controllers like
National Semiconductors can give you a list of CAMAC module
manufacturers.

There ist for example CAEN in italy that build CAMAC and NIM modules
http://www.caen.it/nuclear/family.php?fam=cam

Roentdek in germany has a CAMAC controller and a couple of time to
digital converters:

What would you do with an FPGA in a CAMAC crate?

What is this part? I can't find any reference to CAMAC on National's
site.

I've built three CAMAC modules here at TRIUMF using Altera FPGAs -
they replace a heluvalot
of logic chips.

One of the modules is a scanning 32 channel ADC, to replace a Lecroy
2232A - all the logic and channel registers that fills most of
Lecroy's board is in one Altera part.

Say what? Do you have a part number for this National Semi CAMAC controller?
