This may be a small consolation but LV 8.5 supports 4GB of memory on vista 64 and can support 3-4 GB with some modifications to the boot settings in xp and vista 32 (be warned the /3GB reduces other system resources which can be a problem on some systems with certain workloads).

I believe the 4GB settings for xp are incorrect since the /pae flag is ignored in WinXP sp2 (expect on the server versions that support over 4GB of ram, and pre sp2. A lot of drivers wouldn't work right with PAE on, so microsoft removed it from the non server versions in sp2)
PS. How the heck are you "defraging" memory allocated by LabVIEW.

Just a note, the additional memory made available to user processes by the /3GB option was not useable by LabVIEW until version 8.5. The same holds true of accessing 4 GB from 32-bit LabVIEW on Vista 64 - this was not supported until LabVIEW 8.5. Further, while I don't know all the details, I've heard that there can be some corner-case problems using the /3GB option with LabVIEW versions prior to 8.0. If you are using LabVIEW 7.x or older, I would not recommend trying it.
Additionally, we are aware of the desire for a natively 64-bit LabVIEW, and some of the large memory applications it could help solve. We have been working on this, and I can't mention any dates, I will try to contact you if you're interested once we approach a beta version.

Thanks Jeff,
the information is very interesting and usefull... in fact I doubted the /3GB was really used in LV 7.1/8.0 as I didn't notice any benefit when I tested it in the past.
Concerning LV 8.5 and Vista 64 the new limit to 4GB is anyway an improvement respect to previous versions and of course positive to me !!! Concerning this point do you know if current Advanced Vision LIBs have also been updated to the new 4GB limit ?
Obviously full 64bit support will anyway be the final solution to my problems... and I'll really appreciate if you can inform me of any improvement in that direction... Thanks in advance !
