Labview any good ?

Hi All,

I used to write ATE s/w 10 years ago in HP-Basic and a bit VB,
my present company needs some ATE now and as I "already know
all about it" 🙂 I got the job.

I feel well out of touch and would be grateful if people could give me
a option on Labview as the way to go is it good bad or wha t or VB
better
CVI or maybe HT-Basic.

Initially I am looking at GPIB equipemt testing RF blocks, want
database
access for results and some form of scripting to apply over the top.

Any comment would be welcome

I'm in a similar position, getting back into test equipment programming,
but my task is to instrument drivers in LabView, CVI, VEE and anything
else our customers want.

In my limited experience (about 2 weeks) I have found HPVEE to be much
easier to use.
The wires move automatically. LabVIEW wires are very
cumbersome by comparison. I spend a lot more time messing with LabVIEW
wires, and almost no time with HPVEE wires. Also, HPVEE has two KINDS of
wires, data flow and control flow, which I think makes the block diagram
more clear.

Just my 2 cents, and worth every penny....

The downside of hpvee is that it executes more slowly (in my brief exposure),
has a fraction of the LabVIEW users, doesn't have nearly the number of add
ons, and about the only instrument manufacturer that makes hpvee drivers
is Agilent.
