LabVIEW MAX doesn't display hardware in the configuration window (I am running the 8.6.1 Trial Version)

I'm currently running the trial version of LabVIEW 8.6.  The Measurement and Automation Explorer is not displaying hardware in the configuration window. Basically it is only displaying software. I'm trying to go through the data acquistion tutorials that I downloaded from the NI website. However, the 4th tutorial (Acquire Data) I cannot do because I need to setup a simulated device. Anyone know why I don't have hardware listed? How can I fix this?

Did you setup the simulated device in MAX? What steps did you take to do so?

This is what I see. Only software. Not sure how to get hardware to appear or anything else for that matter.

In order for any hardware to show up, you actually have to install a hardware driver. If you want to experiment with DAQmx, that is what you need to install. It is separate from LabVIEW. Get the latest.

Yup, that's what it was. Thank you very much.
