LV Runtime engine installer / datasocket start menu shortcut is PISSING ME OFF

Solved!
Go to solution
I do not want NI shortcuts directly under "programs" in my start menu(Start -> Programs -> National Instruments)
if i move them to a sub-folder(Start -> Programs -> Applications -> NI), then try to run visual basic 6, windows starts trying to install the LV runtime engine;  if allowed to install, the datasocket shortcut re-appears on the start menu.
if i simply leave the NI DataSocket shortcut where it was originally everything works fine

this is pissing me off bigtime.  i don;t use data socket, all i want is to be able to talk to my GDMF daq card with VB6.   wtf, ni

Hi Stinky,

Does your DAQ card not work in VB 6? Also are you moving the National Instruments folder under the All Users program folder or just your accounts? When the datasocket installer runs do you have any options for start menu shortcut locations?

DAQ works fine in VB6(with traditional NI-DAQ)
folder is under all users
no start menu options.

it is as if whatever is trying to load at VB6 startup wants the DataSocket shortcut to be there.  shortcut there = OK, moved = LVRT installer starts.
if i cancel the installer than put the shortcut back, everything starts up fine again.

This problem started when i installed NIDAQmx, i never had a problem with legacy.

basically i do not want a national instruments shortcut folder directly under "Pregrams" in my start menu, and this is what causes trouble.

Hi Stinky,

The behavior you describe is unusual. I'd like to try and replicate it. Can you tell me all the software packages you have install, and is it only data sockets that cause this problem?

Hi Sappster,

Did you find any solution for the problem, beside not moving the shortcut? I have exactly the same behaviour after installing LV RTE 7.1.1

Regards.

Easy fix, and I do this with a lot of other shortcuts for other programs...   Just make them hidden files.

If you delete them and it does some kind of update; it will detect that they are not present and add them back in.
