LM managing older recent license versions of LV?

We're using a PC with LV 8.6 to control a device. We plan to update the software to use a more recent version in the future, but in the meantime will need licensing for the older LV version. I believe our volume license allows us to use older versions of LV. However, the local license manager shows the server only licensing LV 2011 SP1.

Also, we will need to license the FPGA Development and Real-Time Development modules under the older LV 8.6 version.

Can this be done?  If so, how?

You should only be able to get a license for a single version at a time.  So if you do not have LV2011 open, you can open LV8.6 and get the license for it.

Please let me clarify.  The v8.6 installation is listed as a local license.  The Volume license server is shown, but only shows the licensing for the 2011 version of LV, therefore, we do not get the option to obtain a server license for the 8.6 version.

So, is there a way to change it from looking for a local license to the VL server so that our 8.6 installation can pull a license from the VL server?

In License Manager, you can right-click and deactivate your local licenses.

This did not help.  The license manager still showed them as local licenses the license server still only showed 2011 as an option.

However, our situation has recently changed and this is no longer a requirement.

Thank you for your suggestions.

As ususally happens, the users changed their minds and they need this functionality.

The 8.6 software is still shown as Local License, the Use License server option is set, yet the user is unable to checkout a license for the version.

The software was installed as a evaluation version first.  Attached is a screen shot of the license manager.NI_LV_LicenseManager.jpg

Thank you for your help.

And BTW, yes, they activated the software after this screen shot was taken.

tcaudill,
The activation method of LabVIEW 8.6 (and earlier) must be chosen at install time. An install of LabVIEW 8.6 that uses a local license can not be changed to point to a volume license server (It should be noted that this is a standard feature in newer versions of LabVIEW).

Unfortunately, you will need to reinstall LabVIEW 8.6 using a Volume License Installer that will setup LabVIEW 8.6 to look at a Volume License Server instead of a local license.

More information on how to accomplish this can be found at the following resources:
