Knob Blinking Property

There is a blinking property for knob control's property node.  What I'd like to be able to do is blink the housing color, but from what I can tell it looks like that property blinks the "slide/needle" indicator on the knob only.

Is there an easy way to implement this?  I'm not sure if there is a way to change what the blinking property controls?

Could you just change the housing colors at some regular interval?

Make the knob background color transparent, and put a blink button behind.
