JKI VI Tester (tool) - some basic test fundamentals

Looking for workarounds that people use please...
From looking on various different fora it seems that lots of people like the JKI package "VI Tester".

I'm looking to solve a few problems with starting to add some basic tests to my code (which needs some unit/ system testing added).

1) how do people deal with unit tests where one button dialog (or similar) is called and requires user interaction to dismiss - I can't find a way to access the dialog through VI server or even detect it (and therefore close it)

2) how do people deal with sending value signaling to a control on a subpanel VI (the stop button in my case) to trigger an event?

(I've got a technique but I'm not convinced by it).
