Image Processing: Two metrics for the segmentation of this image?

Hi. 🙂 I need two matrics that can help me segment this image http://imgur.com/XlY3IGM (Or see attachment)  basically just a gray value image with description text next to it. My Prof. said I have to find 2 metrics then I have to represent them in 2-D Feature space or something like that, then sketch in that diagram the regions for each the picture and the description text. Can someone help me with that? 😕 I have no clue on what to do and I would really appreciate your help!!! Thanks!! 🙂

I do not really understand what you want do do.

Do you want to read the text using OCR?
Is there only this single picture or more pictures with different positions of the text?
What should happen with the image on the right side?
