How to use a Third Party DAQ evaluation board/ module

Hi to everyone,

This question may have occuerd earlier but I have never got a clear and direct answer for this.

ISSUE : I have a High Speed DAQ module DC1371A evaluation board from Linear technology [ http://cds.linear.com/docs/Demo%20Board%20Manual/dc1371A.pdf ].

Question: Since DAQ/DAQmx allows only Ni devices to be interfaced, how can I configure this module to work with labview. This module has a software Pscope [ http://www.linear.com/designtools/software/ . How do I proceed.

Thank you guys,

Abhi

You would need to see if they provide some sort of DLL, or ActiveX interface, or .NET interface that you can call from LabVIEW. Contact Linear Tech and ask them what libraries or API they have to talk to the board from programming languages.

Ok. what if they dont have any ... At the worse case is there any other way to communicate with the board/ module ?

The vendor has to provide some sort of driver support, the days of providing a base address and a list of IO registers is long gone. The only question is what format they will be in. My guess is that they have LV VIs for the board because in this market NI is the 900lb gorilla in the room.

Trying to sell a DAQ board without LV support would be like trying to sell a car without tires.

Have you tried asking first?

Problem 1: Don't "wait patiently". You aren't asking for one of the mysteries of the universe. If it's been more than a couple hours call her back and ask her where your answer is.

Your board is actually a Demonstration Circuit (DC) used to evaluate ADCs that you might be interested in buying from them.  It's not a product that is likely to be supported with drivers and other conveniences.  My guess is that you're going to have problems getting any type of driver that will let you press it into service as a DAQ module.

Can't hurt to ask though... Good Luck!

I asked her and she told Linear Technology wont provide any kinda drivers to communicate with LV. If needed I have to use their PSCOPE program that displays the signals etc.

This is bad.

Can you guys please suggest any other DAQ module with ADC ( 14 bit and 250 msps) and a DSP board with it to process the data, Both of which I can communicate with LV without any hassle.

I am tired of waiting for other companies to offer some way to communicate with LV. or Please advice HOW TO GO ABT SETTING UP A HIGH SPEED ADC AND DAQ MODULE. I think its better I start from scratch.

Thank you
