How to find the natural frequencies of a steel impactor?

Hi guys,

I would like to find the natural frequencies of the impactor made of steel. An accelerometer is mounted to the side as i cannot place it to the top (middle). I plan to tap the impactor at the impact point (bottom radius) using an impact hammer.

How shall I stabilize the impactor? Shall the impactor be turned 180 degrees and sit on a foam or something?

Thank you.
