That seems to have worked! I'm not sure if I'll be able to get this all downloaded today - can you please leave this on the drive for a few more days (til 4/3/07 or so)??  Thanks for the help.

Hi Jeremy,

I am not sure when the ftp site will be cleaned off, but if you try to access it next and it is not there, just let me know and I will repost it.

Have a great weekend!

Hello

I was wondering if this driver cd works with labview 8.21?
If not how can I get a copy of the drivers cd?

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Hey Nate,

The driver should be fine. It'd be best to test it out, and the drivers wouldn't hurt your system if there were anything incompatible, it would just throw an error.

I have the same problem with LabVIEW 8.2.1 and DAQmx 8.5. After reading all these messages I wonder why there is not given a simple solution to that problem. Downloading a file with about 1GB is not possible for everyone.

There was already mentioned that the Instrument I/O Assistent driver with the minimal version 2.0 has to be installed. Why can't this driver be supplied as download? I'm not able to find it at the download site. There is only the outdated 1.x version available. Why this driver wasn't updated on the website?

To solve this issue I checked our latest ICLA DVD pack (11/06) and found this driver (2.2.0) within the device driver snapshot. I installed it manually and all works fine now.

The question I have now is, what product should I supply to our registered users? Using the latest snapshot or the official DAQmx release? Doing the second one I have to add all remaining drivers, right? But what is the difference between both? Are there no official releases for the snapshot drivers and why they cannot be downloaded from the resource center?

Thanks
Henrik

Hey Whimboo,

The I/O assistant comes with NI-VISA. I'm a little unsure what you mean by Snapshot. Do you mean a Device Driver CD that you currently own? If you install NI-VISA from the Device Driver CD that you own, you could just copy and paste the files from the CD, and that should be fine. Something to verify, is that the I/O assistant will come with the Device Driver CD version of NI-VISA. The Daq Assistant comes with the NI-Daqmx driver.

Can you let me know if this answers your question? If you have it working, you can just copy and paste the installer that you got working on your computer, and use it for your customer.

Regards,

Nick D.

Hi Nick,

That the I/O assistant comes with NI-VISA drivers was already clear for me after reading the whole thread. But thank you. What I wanted to know is what I should offer my colleagues. We have a campus license and get the DVD pack on a regular half-year basis. The LabVIEW Core DVD contains a snapshot of all device drivers - our latest version is August 06 and it's really old. Meanwhile new DAQmx drivers for LabVIEW 8.2.x were released which we also need. So I downloaded the newest versions and put them onto our fileserver. For many users this will be confusing. They don't know which drivers they have to install from which location Snapshot release vs. official DAQmx etc. drivers.

Why
NI doesn't offer an regularly updated snapshot version and put it on a public directory? Waiting for the next DVD pack or asking each time to get a download link isn't a good way of supplying updates. It would be very helpful if NI could reconsider their download philosophy. The same also applies to application downloads (e.g. LabVIEW 8.2.1) for other platforms like Linux or Mac OS X - which are also not available from within the NI Services Resource Center.

Henrik

I installed NI-Visa 4.1 (http://digital.ni.com/softlib.nsf/websearch/B1A7837FFFD2826E8625729100689D3C?opendocument&node=132070_US) and no, the Instrument I/O driver doesn't come with that software. When you try to run the express VI from within LabVIEW you will always get the error message.

Hi Henrik,

Let me clarify a little.  NI-VISA does NOT install the I/O Assistant Express VI, but the I/O Assistant uses VISA.  When you install LabVIEW before any drivers, the NI-VISA icons will show up on the LabVIEW Functions Palette under "Instrument I/O>>VISA", but they are not functional until you install NI-VISA.  The icon for the I/O Assistant also shows up in the same way on the Instrument I/O Palette, but you need both NI-VISA and the I/O Assistant installed separately to use it.  Currently, the I/O Assistant is only available on the Driver CD.  If you download the driver CD, start the CD and wait for the initialization (may take a few minues), and browse to the Instrument Control section, you will see the option to install the I/O Assistant.  You can deselect anything else unless you would like to also upgrade other drivers (this is often recemmended). It should be a quick install and the I/O Assistant error should go away.

If this is not a preferred process for you, it is encouraged that you submit a product suggestion by browsing to www.ni.com\contact and clicking on the feedback link in the lower left side.  This feedback is considered for future releases, so it will get to the appropriate party.

I hope this clarifies things, but let me know if you have any other questions!  Have a great day!
