How can I input my 4-20 mA lvdt into the pcmcia daq card 6024e

Hello

I am replacing an old analog mechanical dial gauge with a new 4-20mA lvdt and am going to purchase a pcmcia laptop DAQ card 6024e , to input all the data into a file. Has anybody here tried this ? I only have experience with serial data re rs232 and am not sure (no idea )If this daq card will do this. Perhaps someone here can tell if this will do the job, and any info would be great. Also i am Keen to look at some code wich I can borrow to take these lvdt device readings and log them. I guess the signal will be digital once it has passed the daq card , !!

Any help greatly appreciated

Hi Skegsy,

If the output is a current, you can use the analog input of the DAQ Card to make the measurement:

Measuring Current Using the Analog Input of a DAQ Board?

However, the output of a LVDT is usually an AC waveform, hence signal conditioning is required before acquiring the data into the DAQ Card. The tutorial below will provide more detail on how LVDT can be used with DAQ, and provide links to example programs.
