How can I backup/restore my VI's state?

I tried the source example, but its'quite limited. I can't save my VI's state under a filename and retreive it later (I mean much later). In the example, the refnum is ALWAYS incrementing... the way it's done, I could only save and retreive one state... I want the possibility to retreive many.

Thanks for the help!

What do you mean by "state"?
In LV, a VI state is something like running, idle, bad or waiting to run.
Refnums are always individual per session. Even a constant refnum would be different between different runs. There is no reason to save refnums.
If you want your controls to load to a certain value, you can save a specific value as default when you save the VI. You can also use the "reinitialize all to default" method when the VI is running. If you want to load different values, you will have to do so specifically. One way of doing this is through the configuration file VIs (in the file palette). You can find more about this at openg
