Randy,
Go to the examples database. There are plenty of good examples of exactly how to do this in LabVIEW, even for your Mac. I know that the sound VIs were available in 5.1, and that they were significantly upgraded in 6i. It may be time to upgrade, as I don't recall if 5.0.1 had the sound VIs. Check your pallettes, and make sure you are on default view, in order to see those VIs. But first check your examples database.
