Hokuyo LIDAR won't work with example project

I have a UXM-30LX-E Hokuyo LIDAR that errors out in the example (Hokuyo URG Series Configure and Acquire Data.vi) vi. I am communicating over ethernet, and I have it successfully set up with MAX.  The error is as follows: 

Error -1073807194 occurred at VISA Write in Hokuyo URG Series.lvlib:Query Instrument.vi->Hokuyo URG Series.lvlib:Configure Laser Power.vi->Hokuyo URG Series.lvlib:Close.vi->Hokuyo URG Series Configure and Acquire Data.vi

Possible reason(s):

VISA: (Hex 0xBFFF00A6) The connection for the given session has been lost.

It seems to have an error reading from the LIDAR, but I don't know why.

I am using Windows7 and LabVIEW 2011.
