Help with parts connections with cDAQ : Positioning system in LabView!!

Hey fellow LabViewers!

I am making a positioning system which moves a platform on guideways by a leadscrew back and forth via LabView(only X-axis). The leadscrew is connected to a gearbox where I plan on attaching a stepper motor to move it.

I have already chosen most of the parts of my system. Also, I have the NI-cDAQ 9174 chassis for data acquisition.

I am having difficulty understanding what DAQ modules I will need and hardware connections of parts with DAQ and power.

My parts with specs and use:-

1.) Stepper motor : SANMOTION 103-H8222-6340 Bipolar

https://www.enika.cz/103h8222-6340-step-motor-86mm-6a-5-6nm_z33300/

2.) Motor driver : NDC 6V Driver

https://www.enika.cz/ndc06-v-driver-24-75vdc-1-9-6a-oscill_z9707/

3.) Draw-wire sensor : MICRO-EPSILON WPS-1250-MK46 Potentiometer-type (For distance measurement)

https://www.micro-epsilon.jp/download/manuals/man--wireSENSOR-WPS--en.pdf

4.) 2 Limit Switches : OMRON D4F- Roller Lever type (on both ends of leadscrew to limit extra movement)

https://assets.omron.com/m/5175d36021ede15c/original/D4F_Datasheet_en_201504_C73I-E-02_rev5_1-pdf.pd...

5.) A Solenoid Valve : IMI-HERION 95000 Series Direct Actuated Solenoid Poppet Valve (to control the air brakes of the platform, only ON/OFF operation)

https://www.mgacontrols.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/95000-Series-Direct-Acting-Solenoid-Valves.pd...

I have attached a picture of the physical layout of my project for an idea.

So far I have understood connections between Motor & driver and that I need a Digital I/O module for this.

Please suggest some ways how I could connect all these parts together with a DAQ module compatible with cDAQ-9174 chassis to operate them through a LabView program!!

Thanks in advance! Cheers! 🙂

Hi, @SS23,

If I were you, I would try one of these options:

  1. Read this and see where it gets you.
  2. Click on the "Contact Us" button at the top of the page and (at least for me, in the United States) scroll down to "Purchase and Quote". There, it says, "Discuss product recommendations, quote products and place an order: [phone number]". That sounds to be exactly what you're asking for.

If you don't want to do either of those, you might try posting your request on the Job Openings board. From the Job board, you could hire a professional to help you figure out what you need/don't need, and (if needed) they could also help teach you how to program, too (or program it for you - depending on what you're looking for).

If you instead want to build this all yourself, I recommend you look up the types of parts you have (e.g. switches, stepper motors, sensors, solenoids) on hobby electronics websites. There are a lot of really good beginner tutorials to learn how the components work.

Once you understand your components, you'll know what types of DAQ interface(s) you need, whether Analog In, Analog Out, Digital In, Digital Out, or other (more specialized) options. If you still need help after that, you'll be able to ask much better questions and get quick, simple answers.

Or maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're asking. If I'm not understanding, could you revise your question?

Thank you,

joeorbob

Hi thanks for your comment @joeorbob.

I have been working very hard to understand what DAQ devices to use and how to connect them to the chosen parts. Hence, finally I have come up with a scheme. I would really appreciate some feedback on it. I have some doubts about the attachment of grounds with the power supplies.

Please give me your feedback. Thanks in advance!
