No, changing your typedef between control and indicator will not change the behaviour of rings or ring-like elements like VISA resource names.
But I'm puzzled on why you would have problems with your type-def cluster "AcqData". This contains only arrays, numbers and strings - unless you change the arraysize of an array (and hence its default value) inside your cluster type def.
