GPIB PROBLEM

The Gateway Address should be the same as your PC's static IP address (192.168.1.2).

Uh-oh, now you've done it.  He can no longer reach the internet.  😉

No, there were others in this thread that recommended the Ethernet cable.

And you don't even need a router.  A simple, really cheap network switch will do as well if you use static IP addresses.  I made a whole test system work that way and it was beautiful how everything played together.  And it was A LOT cheaper than GPIB.

A router would allow you access to the internet while still being able to communicate with your equipment in DHCP mode... IF your IT allows that.  I guess he never figured out how to get back onto the internet after he set his static IP address.

In my world, Test System = not connected to any outside network (including company network).  I will network a few test systems to keep a local repository, but they do not go beyond that.  I do this for performance (no need for the firewall, virus scan, etc.) and stability (I know exactly who has what IP and it never changes based on how a router feels that day).
