Error installing LINX - An internal VIPM 2020.3 (build 2540) Error has occured

I'm attempting to use the VIPM for LabView Community Edition on my Mac OS Big Sur.

I was able to get LabView up and running, as well as install the VPIM

I'll post the error log here - anyone have any bright ideas?

I did look in the location of the file specified and it was not there. I don't want to go adding stuff, and possibly make matters worse.

Has anyone seen this before - Thanks - Glen

LINX is installed automatically with my Windows version of LV 2020 CE.  That is not the case for Mac?

Hi Bill - I see on some places that is the case. However, I looked at the menu and I do not see that.
If you look on my dropdown menu, I do not see the menu item.

/Applications/National Instruments/LabVIEW 2020 64-bit/vi.lib/  also, I do not see the MakerHub directory in the directory.

ls /Applications/National Instruments/LabVIEW 2020 64-bit/vi.lib/

So, did I forget something during the install?

I doubt you did anything wrong.  You should have a LINX palette for your block diagram if it's installed correctly.  I need to go home and look at my (Windows) setup to see if it appears in the tools menu, though.  I don't remember seeing it there, but like I said, I have to go home and confirm it.

Hi there - thanks again for responding.

Ever notice that when you offer someone help, they never leave you alone? 😎

Hey, did I mention that I was running on a Mac - Big Sur?  I noticed that this OS seems to have all sorts of incompatibilities with things. I had a bitch of a time getting stuff like VirtualBox and in this case LabVIEW running. I should just stop being a cheapskate and buy a license. However, I don't really need it, except for support.

Anyway, would you recommend any good resources, besides the obvious, for me to dig into LabView - it's been many years since I used it and I have forgotten about lots of it's features.

However, I would still like to resolve this part - thanks.

I tried something else.

I went into my System Preferences on my Mac and made sure that LabVIEW and VIPM has access to the disk (r/w)
I'm still getting the errors - this doesn't make much sense to me.

Now, this may be a clue - it seems that any package that I attempt to install with this, I get the same type of error. Error code 7.
So, think that would help at all?
Thanks - Glen

Dang, I forgot to get back to you!!!

As LINX is officially part of LV 2020 CE, you should have an entry named "LabVIEW Hobbysist Toolkit" version 20.1blahblahblah in NIPM (not VIPM!).  Mousing over the entry confirms that this is the LINX toolkit.

Please stop trying to install the old version from VIPM.  I don't know, maybe it already screwed up your install and you need to re-install the toolkit I mentioned in the post above.

Edit:

I don't know if Mac has NIPM; look wherever you look to see if LINX was installed and look for the Hobbyist Toolkit instead.

Also, check your block diagram palettes for a "Hobbyist" palette.

FWIW, when I first installed LV 2020 CE I too used VIPM to try to add LINX & MakerHub toolkits.  I ran into a lot of errors through those attempts, came to the forums to search around, only to find that shouldn't have needed to install those toolkits manually through VIPM at all.   By that time however, removing the unnecessary VIPM packages didn't solve things for me either.

Eventually I just did an uninstall / reinstall of LV 2020 CE, after which the built-in LINX support functioned properly.   If all else fails, maybe that'd be worth a try?

CAUTION! New LabVIEW adopters -- it's too late for me, but you *can* save yourself. The new subscription policy for LabVIEW puts NI's hand in your wallet for the rest of your working life. Are you sure you're *that* dedicated to LabVIEW? (Summary of my reasons in this post, part of a voluminous thread of mostly complaints starting here).
