In general, this works OK:

But inside my XNode it throws error 1026: "VI Server property is read-only".  Why?   It's not really read-only.  The first property item (Unit Label Visible?" causes the unit label object to be created inside the constant; so I should be able to set it.

I don't know much about xnodes, but maybe it treats it like it is in the run-time environment?
