It's a string-to-number conversion function! Look for it in the string->"Number/string conversion" function palette and read the context help for that function…

You really should take the Training resources as offered at the top of the LabVIEW board. Really!

This is a boolean (see that "TF"!?) indicator (see that triangle at the left side!?) terminal (set to icon view, which I don't like)!

EDIT:

I merged your threads as you basically ask on guidance to actually learn LabVIEW! See my comment above on Training resources…

You cannot subtract a float from a boolean value as you can read in the context help when hovering the mouse over the broken wire. (Again: do the Training courses!) In your blurry image at the left border there probably is a multiply instead of an equal function…
