Developer Suite Upgrades... How do you folks to it?

Here I sit with a stack of NI Disks and a huge list of updated software that is scattered amongst the CDs.
I am on LabVIEW 8.20 and I am upgrading to 8.2.1... plus the many other updates.
Updating all of it individually and getting each piece seems unlikely... So I begin to uninstall ALL NI software to clean install this Quarter's release... this is a tedius and time consuming task but the only way I see to get a good install of all the updates. (Toolkits are particularly difficult. The Internet Toolkit has a zipped update buried in its folder for use with LV 8+)
What do you do at your companies? What does NI recommend?

I think the upgrade question also has to do with the issue of introducing a new version of LabVIEW for in-development projects. Some risk management needs to be done I think.
As far as the technical side of things. I think a standard upgrade path is suggested. Why should we require to uninstall everything first? Doesn't the new install handle this automatically?

My biggest issue is this:
Lets say I have LabVIEW 8.0 installed. I Upgrade that to LabVIEW 8.2 and I now I have to reinstall all the toolkits and drivers. The software for the toolkits was installed to 8.0 folder and still exists, so the installer asks me to remove/repair. Should I repair? This would abandon the old install and leave a mess, right? ...
So I remove everything first and clean install... sigh.
Another issue:
Drivers. Need I say more about being prompted for different versions of the disk? (if you install only updated drives, you may have to keep ALL the CDs when you create an installer because LabVIEW will seemingly randomly ask for the X version of the driver disk)... This is definitely a situation where remove all, then install helps....
I am just hoping that someone else has found a way around this stuff.

Check out this KB :

I recently re-installed 7.0, 7.1.1 and 8.21 with this process.  Very tedious but it appears to have worked.

NI's solution is much the same as the one I am not happy with... unistall and reinstall... sigh.Smiley Sad
