Hello:
Can someone help me locate a cable drawing and or explain the difference between the following DIO cables?
SHC68-C68-D4 and SHC68-C68-S?
Thanks,
Marvin

Hi Marvin,
Thanks for the forum post, I had noticed you haven't received any support.
The National Instruments SHC68-68 cable offers basic shielding with individually twisted cable pairs. The cable does not have shields between the analog and digital signals. For improved noise rejection, consider the NI SHC68-68-EPM. The SHC68-68 features a 68-positiion 0.050 series D-Type connector to 68-position VHDCI connector so you can connect your M Series device to standard 68-pin accessories. Two cables are required to access all pins on 2-connector M Series devices.
The National Instruments SH68-68-S shielded cable is designed for use with the NI TBX-68S DIN-rail mountable terminal block, CB-68LP digital and trigger I/O terminal block, SCB-68 shielded I/O connector block, and PXI-2501 and PXI-2503 low-voltage multiplexer/matrix switches, as well as USB-62x5 M Series devices.
So it depends on your application. What is it?
For expample SH68-68-D1 is designed for particular use.
Kind Regards,

Thanks for the reply... the reason I ask... I am using a LV FPGA PCI-7833R card and utilizing the digital section. We plugged a SHC68-C68-D4 into the digital side of the FPGA and the other side of the cable to our custom interface card. It appears that this killed the +5V output on the LV FPGA card. I thought all these cables were straight through, i.e. pin 1 to pin 1, pin 2 to pin 2, only with some combinations twisted and grouped in different ways. I was not expecting wires to be cross, which is what it appears to be ont his cable. Do you have any info in this regard? Should this cable be straight through?
Thanks,
Marvin

Hi Marvin,
Thanks for the reply and I hope your well today.
I would recommend looking at the recommended cable section on ni.com. It seems SHC68-68-RMIO Cable (1m) and SH68-C68-S Cable (1m) are the best cables to use.
In the manual [page 1-8] there are details regarding cables. And then at the end in the appendix pin outs are provide.
The pins outs for the DIO are different between the devices the SHC68-C68-D4 was designed for at the SHC68-C68-S, which the later would have been the cable to use Or SHC68-68-RMIO.
Also see this link regarding cables - the full range for 68-68 are mentioned.
Let me know if you have any other questions,
Kind Regards,
James.
