DAQmx Assitant not found in LabVIEW 8.0, but available in 8.2

Solved!

Hello

The computer system that I am using for my research has  LabVIEW 7.1, 8.0 and 8.2 installed. For my work, I need the Sound and Vibration Toolkit, which is installed on 8.0. Previously, I was able to use (see, have access to) the DAQ Assistant for DAQmx in 8.0, but now this functionallity has seemed to disappear. In 8.2, I can open a vi that I have been working on in 8.0, and supposedly load the SVT sub vi items and also see and access the DAQ Assistant.

I am puzzled on what to do to correct this. I have thought about reinstalling 8.0, but there are other users of LabVIEW who use the same computer, and I don't know how my reinstallation will affect them. I have also read about reinstalling the DAQ drivers. I don't want to do something that may not fix the problem.

I have discussed upgrading everything to 8.6 with my professor, but he feels that everything should be fine for what I am working with.

Thanks

Auburn,

What version of DAQmx do you have?  We have 2 Knowledgebase articles that may be of interest to you:

Why was NI-DAQmx Support for LabVIEW 7.1 Kept while LabVIEW 8.0 was not?

Installing Toolkits for Use with Multiple Versions of LabVIEW

The first linked here is the most likely reason.  Do you see the other DAQmx VI's?  Can you go into Measurement and Automation Explorer under the software tab and verify you have DAQmx installed.

I have DAQmx version 8.8 currently installed. From your first knowledge base article, I now know that I can't use this with LabVIEW 8.0.

Since I can see the DAQmx Assistant in LabVIEW 8.2, would the instructions in the second KB article apply for installing the SVT for 8.0 in 8.2?

If this is not possible, then what options do I have that will be of no cost?

Thanks

Auburn,

The second would apply if you want to keep it installed for 8.0 if not you could simply uninstall and reinstall for 8.2.

How can I use the second KB article if I already have SVT installed in 8.0? Do I need to uninstall it first before preceding with those instructions?

Auburn,

I would recommend that you uninstall and then follow the procedure.  This will make sure to keep the proper registry entries and avoid the error shown it the document linked below.

Here is another relating document that talks about the problem of multiple versions.

I'm going to try installing for both versions. I currently have SVT version 4 (It came with the Academic Installation Kit for LabVIEW 8.0). Will this toolkit work with 8.2 when I reinstall to that version? From the newer versions of the SVT, are there any versions that are free that will work with 8.2?

Thanks.

Auburn,

I can't find specific documentation I can link you to but I am confident that it will work.  Most of the newer versions will work with 8.2 as far as being free, in general no, but you might contact a local sales representative and see if you can get something academic worked out.
