Command to make a connection between the read and write pins of my serial port

Hello all,

I am searching for a way to open and close a connection, basically a switch, with a computer.  I need a circuit just to close.  To open and close the shutter on my solar simulator all I have to do is short and open the leads connecting to the shutter.  I want to do this automatically.  Instead of purchasing a computer controlled relay, I was hoping I could just use my COM port and short the read write pins, or short one of the pins to ground by using some sort of serial command in labview.  Is this possible?  If not, or if people have some better ideas let me know...

This is a hardware only solution.  Certainly you can use any signal on a port (like CTS on the com port) to set a voltage but you still need a switch (relay) on the other end.
