Cannot see cRIO-9012 from MAX

I cannot see my new cRIO-9012 in MAX.  I have MAX V3.1.1.3004, RIO software V1.3.1 and LabVIEW 7.1.

I have tried moving the resetIP to on position, but I see nothing in MAX.  I also have a cRIO-9004, I can see it no problem in mAX, I can reset cRIO-9004 to 0.0.0.0, then set IP.

Do I have to do something to cRIO-9012 on first use?  is there instructions? could my cRIO-9012 be DOA?  all the LEDs appear to be normal.  Do I have the correct software?

Hello,

It sounds like you are running some older drivers that may not support the CRIO-9012 that you have as it was only released recently. Are you running Windows XP? If so, you can download version 2.1 of the RIO drivers from here:

http://digital.ni.com/softlib.nsf/webcategories/86256C220055D6BC86256D90002C0F7E?opendocument&node=1...

I would give this a go and see if this changes anything.

Also, just to confirm the IP reset configuration; Do you switch the Reset IP to ‘on’, then hit the restart button, then turn the reset IP to ‘off’ and then restart again?

Let me know how you get on with this.

I'm certain I'm performing the reset IP correctly as I've sucessfully reset the IP of my cRIO-9004 from the same PXI PC.  I am running Windows2000.

I've had a look at the link above, it appears there are two applicable updates:

1) CompactRIO Module Software Version 2.1.0f1 for Real-Time OS/Windows 2000/XP -- for CompactRIO Embedded Targets

2) NI-RIO Version 2.1 for Real-Time OS/Windows 2000/XP -- for R Series and CompactRIO Embedded Targets

The second update looks okay to install, but the frist update requires LabVIEW 8.0, 8.0.1, or 8.20.

The minimum software requirement for my cRIO hardware can be found here //ftp.ni.com/pub/devzone/tut/c_rio_software_versions.htm#controllers

but no information on the requirements for cRIO-9012 !  I will try the second update above, lets hope I don't have to buy the latest version of LabVIEW as this will delay my project.

Hi bmann2000,

The cRIO-9012 controller does require at least LabVIEW 8.20.  I made a note to update the minimum software requirements for cRIO hardware to include this information as well.  Sorry for the confusion and delay it will cause for your project.

Hope that helps,

Steve

I now have LabVIEW 8.2, FPGA 8.2, RT 8.2, NI-RIO 2.1 & CompactRIO 2.1.0f1 & MAX 4.1, I also had to upgrade from Win2000 SP2 to Win2000 SP3 to install LabVIEW 8.2.

It’s worth noting, if your thinking of buying the cRIO-9012, you may be better with cRIO-9004 as it will work with LabVIEW 7.1 & NI-RIO 1.1.1.

It’s not clear from the links supplied at http://sine.ni.com/nips/cds/view/p/lang/en/nid/203347 that cRIO-9012 has much higher software requirements than cRIO-9004.

On the plus side, the project manager is much better integrated to the FPGA targets in 8.2.

Hi bmann2000,

but the cRIO-9004 is a 200MHz system whilst the cRIO-9012 is 400 MHz  plus that you have the option of of saving data to external USB device ( FAT format).

If you use MAX 4.2  it can have problems with IP address of CRIO-9012 if you have not disabled your wireless netcardSmiley Surprised

Apparently NI are aware of problem, hopefully patch availiable soon.
