Can't see my KEPCO BOP amplifier (with 4882) on the GPIB using MAX.

Hi,

I'm trying to find someone familiar with programming the KEPCO BOP
amplifiers with the BIT 4882 card in Labview 6i. I can't see the device
in MAX (Windows ME, PCI-GPIB), and when I turn this device I can't see
any of the other devices! Regardless of not being able to see it, I can
readback voltage and current with the VI provided on the KEPCO website.
However I cannot program the voltage or current limits of the amplifier
with the VI.

Anythinge I could check? Should I see the remote come on?

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Rod.

Sounds like you might have an address conflict. Check to make sure that all of the addresses on the bus are unique.

Rod,

What are the settings of the Kepco through the front panel? It needs to be
set properly to be recognized and controlled.

Once you get back then I can give you more info. Also, is their only one in
the system?

Later.

Randy,

Thanks for the quick reply. Do you mean the settings on the front panel
of the amp or the panel of the VI? I'll assume the former for now since
I think I've tried all the permutations in the VI (i.e. making sure the
GPIB address is the same as the dip switches on the amp would suggest,
making sure the max voltage and max current agree with the specs of the
model of my amp (20V/10A), and selecting either HEX or BCD (whatever
that is)).

On the front panel of the amp I think there are only three toggle
switches and two knobs. There are two switches that activate the manual
control potentiometers for front panel voltage and current and the one
switch that toggles between voltage or current mode. Other than that,
there are the analog programming inputs for voltage and current, the
output terminals and the screws for setting an upper and lower limit on
the voltage and current. There is also a remote light that I have never
seen on.

So although I think I've tried all the permutations of these switches, I
might not have. Usually I'll toggle to voltage mode and make sure the
switches for the voltage and current manual control knobs are off so
that when you turn the knobs there is no change in the current or voltage.

Since I am able to read back the voltage and current with the BOP VI I
downloaded from the KEPCO website (when I flip the manual control switch
for example and turn the voltage knob, or have an analog programming
voltage from a fxn generator), I assume that the device is 'talking' to
my GPIB card. However, it's when I try to program a voltage into the BOP
(or a current in current mode) I don't see any change.

Is there any reason that the device would be 'talking' back to my GPIB
controller and not 'listening'? I used to get an identification string
back about a year ago when I first acquired this amp. I was using it on
another system (Win98, older Labview), but I still never was able to
control the voltage or current with the VI.

Any ideas? I'm probably doing something stupid...and can't wait to find
out what it is!!

Cheers,

Rod.

Usually when I've tried this, I've made sure the turned the
