Can someone remind me what the subtle gray hashes on a wire mean?

LV sometimes puts these on a wire when you save a VI but I don't remember what it's supposed to indicate.  I can't post an image because my dev PC is air-gapped but they look like subtle grey slashes or little slanted diamonds overlaid on the wire.

Is that a "this wire is connected to a constant" indication?

Yep, never mind, hashmark setting in LV options.

I saw my father do some work on a car once as a kid and I asked him "How did you know how to do that?" He responded "I didn't, I had to figure it out."

For everybody else, this is a feature called "Constant Folding".  It is a way to see what parts of code will be compiled into a constant.
