Can I use a more recent version of a module in an older version of core labview?

Specifically, I want to use the 2020 version of the Vision Development Module, but currently we have to use Labview 2016 for development because of some driver related issues. Will this work, or does my version of Labview have to match the version of the module?

I could just install it and find out but dont really wanna blow up my current dev environment if it breaks everything.

You need the 2016 version, but you probably should be able to get the 2016 toolkit using the same license. Contact NI.
