Can Bus Instead of RS-232

I want to send serial data to host computer. I'm using sbRIO 9607. There is only one serial port (RS232) available on sbRIO.  My requirement is to send serial data to multiple users by using multiple serial ports. Can I use CAN Bus (that is onboard available) to send my serial data to Host Computer? Or is there another way around to send the data?

Please guide me.

Hi Chishti,

the CAN bus is using a serial communication scheme - but a different one then the RS232 port (electrically and protocol-wise). No you cannot use that as RS232-replacement.

With CAN all devices on the CAN bus need to talk "CAN"…

Or is there another way around to send the data?

Use the network, much easier than serial ports.

You may use a host PC as "relay station" to receive data from sbRIO via network and send them over as much serial ports you have installed in this PC.

Best regards,
GerdW
