Does anyone know how to communicate with an absolute position RS485 encoder through USB rather than a PXI or other DIO? I have a CUI AMT 21 and my advisor ordered the USB cable and not the 6pin so I can setup the encoder via AMT Viewpoint but am not sure if it's possible to view position data in labview through the USB without the AMT interface.

Hi crayon,
at the website of the manufacturer of those AMT21 encoders you find a manual with all needed information about the communication protocol.
You need to read it, then you can create your VIs to communicate with this sensor.

Hello signedcrayon, were you able to communicate with the encoder? I already read the manual to understand the commands and the data rate, but the encoder is not responding. I also verified with the AMT Viewpoint that it is connected correctly.
I'm trying to communicate using the LabVIEW VISA functions sending strings constants (x54) with the Hex Display enabled.
