Bluetooth with HPiPAQ 111

I have an application that utilizes a bluetooth server on a laptop which reads and writes data to a bluetooth client running on a Dell AXIM Pocket PC. I loaded the same client application on a HPiPAQ 111 and I can't get the bluetooth to connect. I read in the developer zone under bluetooth info that the iPAQ apparantly utilizes virtual serial ports for communication on the Pocket PC with bluetooth and lists examples to find in the LabVIEW help directory. I couldn't find any examples utilizing any serial ports and bluetooth in the LabVIEW 2010 example directory. What do I need to do to have this same application work on the HPiPAQ 111 as it does on the Dell AXIM?

Can someone direct me to an example? Thanks!Smiley Indifferent

Hi sfrosty,

Which DeveloperZone were you looking at?  Maybe you could post a link?  There are examples for Bluetooth on mobile devices.  However, the folder you can find them on depends on your version of LabVIEW.  If it's newer it will probably be under a Windows Mobile folder.  What version of LabVIEW are you using?

Specifically:

"PocketPC

  • Most Bluetooth drivers for PocketPC provide the mapping between Bluetooth serial ports and virtual COM (inbound/outbound) ports. For example WIDCOMM Bluetooth driver (BTW-CE 1.4) that comes with hp iPAQ h5550 by default assigns COM port 5 as the inbound Bluetooth serial port and COM port 8 as the outbound Bluetooth serial port. These COM ports are configurable from the driver's Bluetooth manager."

I'm not familiar with how to use this type functionality. My dell PDA had no such settings and has been working great. I was hoping to find some examples utilizing these ports. I'm using LabVIEW 2010 32-bit on a Dell Laptop utilizing Windows 7 64-bit.

Take a look at this Example.  It shows how to use serial to communicate over Bluetooth.

This is Kool! Now I understand about the serial ports on the PDA. I did a little research and I found the Dell Axim has the serial port settings also, just like the HP IPaq. However, I see that I shouldn't need to utilize the serial ports function. I have found that the Dell still works first time everytime but the IPaq still fails to communicate. I have found that I can make the Dell fail by changing the UUID on the server (laptop). I'm going to load the bluetooth example so all my communications can reference a common NI app.Smiley Indifferent

Ran the Simple Bluetooth Client on the Dell PDA. Works as expected. Ran the Simple Bluetooth Client on the HP iPAQ 111 PDA. Doesn't work, gives "Bt Connect error code:2".

Confirmed that the LabVIEW BlueTooth VIs do not work with the HP IPaq 111.Smiley Sad

:smileyvery-happy: Yay! Got the IPaq to communicate over bluetooth using the serial VIs from the serial.llb on the PDA and the bluetooth VIs on the Dell E6400 laptop. Both read and write. Tenacity! :smileywink: Now to get my app updated and working, but first a drink!

Glad to hear that you got it working!  Maybe you could post your code results so others could learn from your tenacity. Smiley Happy
